Meera & Parker // The Machine Shop
Meera and Parker’s wedding day was a vibrant celebration that perfectly reflected their playful personalities, modern style, and deep connection. The couple first met while attending Duke Business School, where they happened to live in the same apartment building. Their story began during a tornado warning when residents gathered in the basement for safety, an unexpected introduction that would eventually lead to a lifelong partnership.
When planning their wedding at the Machine Shop, Meera and Parker envisioned a celebration that blended a classic Western wedding aesthetic with subtle nods to Meera’s Indian heritage, all while creating an unforgettable experience for their guests.
From the beginning, the couple knew they wanted the day to feel energetic, colorful, and completely unique to them. Inspired by Meera’s love of bold color and retro design elements, the wedding featured an eclectic palette of marigold yellow, orange, magenta, blush, and rust layered throughout the space, creating a lively sense of joy and movement. One of the most dramatic design moments was the large overhead installation suspended above both the ceremony aisle and, later, the head table during the reception. Combining florals, lighting, disco balls, and hanging marigold garlands, the statement piece created texture, dimension, and an immersive focal point that carried guests through the entire evening. Throughout the reception, layered tablescapes featuring patterned linens, gold accents, colorful taper candles, and lush floral arrangements added personality and depth while maintaining a cohesive design.
Personal details played a major role throughout the celebration. During the planning process, Meera and Parker shared their tradition of collecting matchboxes from restaurants and travels together, which inspired the custom retro-style matchboxes incorporated throughout the wedding day. Their love of late-night pizza dates during college also made its way into the celebration through custom pizza boxes served during late-night dancing, giving guests a fun and memorable surprise that felt authentically “them.”
The couple thoughtfully incorporated cultural elements into the wedding weekend in a way that felt both meaningful and personal. For the rehearsal dinner, Meera honored her Indian heritage by wearing a vibrant lehenga before changing into a timeless white gown for the wedding ceremony. The fashion choices beautifully reflected the couple’s desire to celebrate multiple facets of their story while maintaining the overall aesthetic vision for the weekend.
Guest experience remained a priority from start to finish, but above all, Meera and Parker wanted to throw an incredible party. Every element of the celebration was designed to keep the energy high and guests fully immersed in the experience. A standout personal touch was the groom’s cake, created as a tribute to Parker’s love of basketball. The design featured a split theme honoring both the University of Arkansas, where he attended undergraduate school, and Duke University, where the couple met while earning their graduate degrees together.
From the moment the dance floor opened, the room was filled with energy that carried late into the night. Meera and Parker’s wedding was bold, joyful, and deeply personal—a celebration filled with color, thoughtful details, and unforgettable moments that perfectly captured who they are as a couple.
